I'm delighted to get my first winner, it's been a long time coming and a lot of hard work. I'm very fortunate that I got a job working for Michael and Ruth Foley at Old Leighlin Stables. I'm only in the job a couple of weeks and I've around ten horses in. I'm very grateful for their support. This is a nice horse to have. He's quirky and kicked the box the whole way from Carlow, but he's tough and we'll find something at Galway for him. He wouldn't want the ground any quicker than this. Desert Haven was one of Paul Hunt's (previous owner) horses and he let him go at the end of the season so I bought him back myself. We did a little job on his wind which helped and he goes on any ground. It's great because his new owners had Knockmore Prince who nearly broke our hearts last year!. They wanted him to jump (hurdles) and he does actually jump so we'll see how we go during the summer. He is probably better over a mile than seven furlongs and that's why the plan was to push on and get first run early in the straight,. That's what we did, he battled hard and got a good ride. He definitely got confidence from his victory the last day. He is a very lightly-raced horse and is only growing into himself so, for obvious reasons, that was another race on his belt the last day that he has progressed from. The blinkers definitely helped. Colin gave him a super ride in the sense that he thought Billy (Lee on Free Solo) would bring him a bit further and then he switched over to Adam (Caffrey on Hightimeyouwon) and Adam's horse helped him. Mark (Breen) that owns him is in America and has been over to us a couple of times from America, he is a lovely man. He is not in the best of health at the minute and it will be a great tonic for him. He is a horse that will be sold, only at the right price.
