Distillate had slipped down the handicap which is a huge help to horses like these, as they always go to a level and then they struggle. It is only when they come back down that they get competitive again and she had come back down to 65 today, which made her competitive. We stepped her up (in distance) and he gave her a good ride as he had to kick when she did as she travelled very easily. She just held on but were in front where it matters. we'll potter away in similar races and the boys (Devlin, O'Hare and Smith) are from the north of Ireland and love running horses up in Down Royal. I suppose a lot of Belardo's like a bit of cut. I think we deserved it as much as he deserved it because he is a little bit tricky, but he put his best foot forward today. He put his head down when he needed to. Great to get the first win with him and I think there might be more with him next year. He's just a little bit of a baby and he's quite big and tall. Good to get the win this year and I think he is in during the week (at Bellewstown) and we'll see if he goes there. Look forward to him next year again. It is hard to plan with these horses. That is only her second run for me, I bought her off Michael Halford not that long ago. She wasn't overly expensive, but they are great fun horses these type of horses. She was small money and somebody had pointed her out to me and said she could be worth taking a punt on. She will be a good fun filly in Dundalk through the winter as well. She's a strong filly and a nice-looking filly as well. She'll definitely go to the beach in Laytown. She got a bit stuck on the rail (in the Curragh). I'd say she was still a bit green as well, it was probably her first time trying to take a gap going forwards rather than backwards. We thought she would win (today), we put her in on Monday (at Roscommon) because we thought she might win and might need to go under a penalty. She won't go to Dundalk, she didn't like it up there so we'll keep her busy before the end of the season. Darragh was class on her, he was very clued in.
