Rachael had been doing a great job and had the good sense to pull him up at Thurles when the ground was too quick but then I jocked her off! I’m delighted for James though who has been a good friend for years and gave him a great spin. I just felt that he needed the 7lb (claim) over the extended trip. we’ve always thought he was a nice horse and he just had a few niggly problems and our vet Amy Fitzgerald has done a lot of work with him. This horse is a real gent, I bought him off Aidan Fitzgerald, Tina Condon rides him out at home everyday and is a huge part of my team along with her daughter Ava. I fancied Ferdia a bit more but this is a smashing horse. I'd say he struggled throughout the race because his main aim is Listowel and this race should put him right. I'm not sure yet what race he'll go for next week. He'll definitely have taken a blow there. I worked him with The Dara Man (pulled up injured earlier on the card) and The Dara Man worked a lot better than him but he obviously improved from the work. A horse like him that won two bumpers, when he jumped the last upsides he was always going to quicken past those. He has a bit of class. This is a lovely horse, he's a half-brother to Fairyhill Run,. My cousin Tom Meagher bred him and the mother died when he was only three weeks old. Then his foster mother had bits of problems, it's only now he's growing into a horse. He's a useful horse. He'll go to Listowel now for the winners of one novice. It was a pity to run both horses against each other and we had planned in keeping them separately, but with so many meetings being called off it was a great result. We had a one-two previously in Ballinrobe and they are grand, solid, old mares who are healthy and well and will stay going as long as there is an ease in the ground. I've had a really tough week - I lost one of my best horses in training who got cast and broke a bone in his knee. I was put on RTE Investigates on Thursday and I've no idea why. A picture was taken off my promotional video on my website and put on RTE and I've no idea why. I'm hugely hurt over it. They (RTE) sent me a letter, but they sent a lot of trainers a letter and they listed out eight horses of mine that ended up there (Shannonside Foods) over the years. Two of them I had sent to agents that could have been riding horses (for racehorses to riding). I always send mine to agents to get a chance to be riding horses.
