A win is a win though and we're delighted. Both my horses were nine and seven years of age and were coming off the Flat so wouldn't have known about hurdling and Jackfinbar was very keen. It is a different pace over jumps so they had to settle back and think, but both did it nicely. It was a pity having to run them against each other but I hadn't another opportunity to get them out this week and I wanted to run. . Jackfinbar had two injuries and was too late when he came out to go novice hurdling last year and with the other fellow (Hipop De Loire), I just wanted to wait with him. They are two nice horses. That's brilliant, I'm delighted. He was a little horse we bought to win a maiden in Belharbour but he went a different direction. We bought a couple of Flat ones to get Seanie (nephew) going. If you want an event pony they cost half a million and we bought him for 15 grand. He's after winning 45 grand now and putting the jockey on the board. Seanie said he was feeling the surface at Dundalk the last day and changing his legs. We didn't know how he'd go on the ground on Sunday, we were just hoping he would. He jumps hurdles and fences, so hopefully he'll rock on. He's a right little horse, we bought him at Newmarket last year at the horses-in-training sale — he hadn't run. When we brought him home we thought we had him for point-to-pointing and we schooled him over fences and all. I carried out the saddle for him today and if he rides him over hurdles I'll have to get a wheelbarrow to carry the saddle. She was good. I thought she'd run very well, she was very unlucky in the Shergar Cup as she got locked in and I thought that was her day with the small field there. The cheekpieces helped her today, she wasn't intimidated by the other horses which really helped. She showed a great turn of foot. I was worried for a second that he would get her out and then it was grand. We did a lot of shouting!. She's a good filly. We thought a lot of her last year and we ran her in the fillies' Listed race here last year, she finished 10th in it and we were disappointed. She's won on slow ground, but Shane said she absolutely hops off that good ground. We'll look for a stakes race and hopefully keep her in training next year. The Equator had a lovely run last year and he's a lovely big honest horse. He handles an ease in the ground but will obviously handle ground which is much better as well - he stays well. Wayne (Lordan, winning jockey) was very happy with him and said he went to the line very strong, he did that last year as a two-year-old as well. he's not fully fit and he said he blew up a furlong down. It's his first run back, he's been away on a break since Punchestown and should improve a good bit. That could leave him right for the Petingo Handicap on Champions Weekend hopefully. I also had in the back of my mind the English Cambridgeshire, he's better on a straight track so a straight mile on soft ground there could suit. The ground would have been plenty quick enough for him there. We'll maybe go for some of those decent handicap hurdles too along the line. we gave him a break after Punchestown because he had been on the go all year. He won his maiden hurdle in Listowel, then won his novice and we kind of had no choice but to keep going in his novice season. He's been working well at home. Wayne (Lordan) liked him when he rode him in Naas and thought he'd need a step up in trip. We found this race for him, a three-year-old only and they are a bit hard to find. It worked well, the ground and everything suited him today. Conditions were right for him. When he ran well in Punchestown, we decided this was a good mid-summer target. He had a little holiday and then had a nice run over a shortish trip on the flat at Leopardstown to blow the cobwebs away. He came here with the four-year-olds allowance and really it was a fantastic ride from JJ. He got a good start, a lovely position and made a lovely move at the top of the hill. He needs that trip and he needs a good gallop,. We thought we were a good thing coming up with all the rain, and then five minutes outside Sligo it was as dry as a bone!. Soft ground is the key to him and he just about got away with it today. It was too quick for him the last day in Gowran and he never got into the race. He's very tough and he will stay further. I'd say two miles might be his trip in the end. We have him schooled and the plan was to go three-year-old hurdling with him, but when he's still competitive on the Flat we'll stay that way with him. I told Colin what I thought about the horse and left the tactics to him, I just gave him a bit of info on the horse. He said with 50 yards to go he thought he was going to get swamped but the horse pulled out a bit more and went to the line well. He has a great attitude. I was a bit worried that he hadn't got there, I was happy that he was after running a good race. It was a real tussle, but I'm delighted that he got there in the end. Paul (Leech, owner) came in this morning from America and I think he's actually friends with the owner of the second horse of Jessie's (Harrington), so he'll have the bragging rights after that. He's a very good horse who's had plenty of injuries. He got a very bad injury after winning over hurdles at Cork on the Monday after Galway last year, and the plan is that he'll go back there for the same race. Ben thinks he'll go on and be a nice Flat horse. We were running him over a mile and a quarter as he was a horse that travelled very well but the last time was a mile and a half and Ben (Coen) said there was no problem stepping up again. He did it well. Chris gave him a peach of a ride, he was in the box seat turning for home. He did well to get him from a 17 draw across and that was important because I thought there was quicker ground on the far rail, and that's been evident all day. He's a good actioned horse. He ran a reasonable race in Galway last week, I was disappointed with him but the ground had gone soft to heavy and that's not for him. He was drawn wide and ran a bit keen. It was a combination of things and things just didn't work out in that particular race. He's a smashing horse to train, he's won a couple on the Flat and he's won over hurdles this year as well. He has a great owner, Gregg Ryan in America.
