It was his first run in a handicap (hurdle) and he jumped a little sketchy at times. The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident in the back straight on the first circuit involving Harvey's Quay, ridden by A.P. Kelly, and Cozone (GB), ridden by J. Smith where it appeared that Cozone ran short of room
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence J. Smith stated that he was forced to take a check when the gap closed on the inside between the fourth and fifth hurdle in the back straight. A.P. Kelly stated that he felt he was returning to his racing line on the inside when he felt slight contact from Cozone on his inside. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards found A.P. Kelly was in breach of Rule 214 in that they had ridden carelessly, and having considered his record in this regard the Raceday Stewards suspended him for two racedays
The Raceday Stewards interviewed G.B. Noonan, rider of Tory Reel, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. G.B. Noonan accepted that he was in breach and apologised for his actions. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Raceday Stewards found G.B. Noonan was in breach of R.10.3(i)(time to respond) and considering his record in this regard they suspended him for two racedays.
