I left him a bit short at Gowran hoping he would come on for the run, and you learn more about them in a race than you would in three weeks at home. It sped up the training process and tweeked his training at home. He'd been working well, and we quietly fancied him. Fergal Lynch was absolutely brilliant on him. He decided to come on the outside as he had a feeling he didn't want to be crowded. I half owe this one to Fergal. He's in again in a claimer on Thursday for €3,000 but I don't think I'd be allowed to run him. I'm delighted for the owners (David Byrne and Carol O'Neill) who are new people with me. J F Levins, trainer
The Stewards requested a report from J.F. Levins, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Havelock Ellis (GB), winner , as compared with its recent form. The trainer reported that he only has the horse a number of months and his first run for him was his most recent run at Gowran Park. He said this was an apprentice race with no whips and he had blinkers on his charge, and he would've been inconvenienced by both of these factors. He applied cheekpieces today and gave instructions to his rider not to have tthe horse crowded and this may have brought about any apparent improvement in form. Having considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanations offered. The Stewards enquired into an incident in the closing stages involving Cash Or Casualty, ridden by D.W. O'Connor, placed third and Imrite, ridden by L.F. Roche, unplaced, where it appeared interference had taken place. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned in the presence of Damien Joseph English, trainer, representing J. F. Levins, trainer and master of Donagh O' Connor. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Rule 214 , in that he had ridden carelessly and having considered his record cautioned him. Mr. A. Byrne, Acting Steward absented himself from this enquiry. The Stewards received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer, Mr. T. Smith, at 5.30pm (after the winner all right had been signalled) that having been presented with the passport of Havelock Ellis (GB), winner, the vaccinations were in breach of Rule 91 in that the most recent entry was dated 5th of September, within the previous 7 days. Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned. Having considered all the evidence, the Stewards referred the matter onto the referrals committee for further investigation. Mr A.
