The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages involving Burn The Boats, ridden by C.T. Keane, placed seventh, Vastonea, ridden by Gary Paul Halpin, placed second, Warbird (GB), ridden by S. Corby, unplaced, No Dominion, ridden by C.R. King, placed sixth and Hasanour (USA), ridden by S. Foley, placed third, where it appeared interference had taken place. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that interference had taken place but deemed it to be accidental and therefore made no alteration to the Judge's placings and took no further action. Niall Madden, trainer, represented Michael Halford, trainer and master of S. Corby at this enquiry. P.J. Smullen, rider of Defining Year, trained by D. K. Weld, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount lost it's action over a furlong out. P.J. Smullen, rider of Defining Year, trained by D. K. An extended handicap for three yrs old and upwards which are E.B.F. eligible and that, at entry, have run at least twice under any Rules Of Racing and are eligible for a handicap rating (105 = 9st 12lb) Weights - The top weight in the original handicap; shall not be less than 9st 12lb Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 5lb extra for each race won Any horse rated above 105 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 9st 12lb. Subsequently, the excess over 105 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any three year old rated above 105 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
