See also » Fort-Vega-has-plenty-of-options I was a little bit worried, being a Lope De Vega, whether the ground would be a tad fast for him. We decided to let him take his chance because it was such a good race for him. I'll talk to John (Lavery, brother), I know where he'd like to go. They love having runners at Ascot and I'd say the Jersey could be an option. John is in Portugal, so I'll talk to him and we'll make a plan. He's in the Guineas next week but you are jumping from a handicap to a Group 1. I think the weather is to be very warm as well, if it came up dead soft I might chance it. He's a gorgeous horse, you can put him anywhere and do anything with him as he's just so easy. Ms Sheila Lavery, trainer
The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident about one hundred and fifty yards from the finish involving Broadhurst, ridden by R.L. Moore, placed second, Betterdaysrcoming, ridden by W.J. Lee, placed third, and National Emblem, ridden by S. Foley, placed sixth, where it appeared that National Emblem was tight for room when racing between Broadhurst and Betterdaysrcoming, who both came off a straight racing line. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. In his evidence, S. Foley stated that his mount was weakening when the other horses came both sides of him and he was unable to maintain his position. W.J. Lee stated that his mount edged slightly left for a flick of the whip but was straightened up quickly. R.L. Moore stated that he had the whip in his right hand when, in his opinion, his mount shied from Fort Vega (Fr) on his inner which possibly caused his own mount to get unbalanced and make a little contact with National Emblem on his outer. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards took no further action
C.D. Hayes, rider of Encosta, trained by Noel Meade, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount got a little bit of pressure on the final bend resulting in the filly losing her hind legs. The Raceday Stewards reviewed the video footage of this part of the race and were satisfied that Encosta rounded the final bend badly and lost her hind legs.
