Prior to this race, John Gosden was asked to explain the reason why he was running Ben Vrackie (GB) here at York on going described as Good to Firm, having reported that the colt would prefer an easier surface following its run at Newmarket on 12 July 2019.
The trainer explained that in hindsight he felt it may not have been the going at Newmarket that was the reason for Ben Vrackie (GB)’s poor performance.
He stated that the colt had been a little bit flat following the race and a blood analysis a few days later revealed an abnormal blood count.
Permission was given for Baghdad (FR) to be mounted in the chute.
Wells Farhh Go (IRE), Raheen House (IRE), Mekong (GB), Baghdad (FR) and Dramatic Queen (USA) all wore earplugs which were removed at the start.
Inside the final furlong, Raymond Tusk (IRE), placed fourth, shifted left carrying Prince Of Arran (GB), placed eighth, slightly off its intended line, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Raymond Tusk (IRE).
The performance of Raheen House (IRE), which started favourite and finished unplaced, was considered.
The representative of William Haggas could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Raheen House (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The performance of Dramatic Queen (USA), finished unplaced, was considered.
The representative of William Haggas could offer no explanation for the filly’s performance.
Gerald Mosse, the rider of Desert Skyline (IRE), placed third, was suspended for 7 days and fined £650 for using his whip above the permitted level from 3 furlongs out.
Following the race, Graham Lee reported that Weekender (GB), unplaced, ran flat; Joe Fanning reported that KING’S ADVICE, unplaced, was never travelling and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the colt failed to reveal any abnormalities; Jason Hart reported that Making Miracles (GB), which was pulled up, stopped quickly and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination revealed the gelding to be displaying a prolonged recovery, lame on its left fore and it was treated for post- race heat stress.
