The Stewards interviewed G.P. Brouder, rider of Apache Gold, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that G.P. Brouder was in breach of Regulation 10.4, in that he had failed to give his mount sufficient time to respond. Having considered his record in this regard, the Stewards cautioned him. S.P. Davis, rider of Templemary Boy trained by Paul W. Flynn, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was slowly away when the stalls opened. The Stewards enquired into an incident on the way to the start, where Lunastar ridden by S.P. Davis appeared to be struck once by the rider with his whip. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who accepted that this was the case, but outlined the difficulties he had with the filly and apologised for his action. Having viewed a recording of the incident and considered all the evidence, the Stewards found that the S.P. Davis was in breach of Rule 272 in that his actions were prejudicial to the good reputation of horse racing. Having considered his previous good record and his inexperience, the Stewards severely cautioned him.
