FormscanBy Gary Carson - ASHDALE BOB retains plenty of ability and ran really well when chasing home Maxxum in a competitive handicap hurdle at the Punchestown festival early last month. This looks a nice opportunity for him now over fences. He already has chase experience and was placed in a good beginners event at Navan a few years ago. The Big Doyen could be a nice sort over fences and looks a danger on his chase debut. Peter Fahey's charge was third in Grade 2 company over timber at Cheltenham last November. Moonovercloon has posted two recent good efforts over fences and is another for the shortlist.

He gave him a lovely ride and did exactly what I told him to do. it looked a lovely opportunity, he's a big gangly horse and it probably wouldn't be his track but I thought it was a winnable race. It's brilliant that he's got off the mark and he's not too bad. He's a horse that's going to stay a lot further. He'll get three miles down the line and today (2m2f) would have been as short as he wants. Jack is usually not far wrong. We were a bit worried about fitness. Jack went for this lad, he probably had the better form in the book. If you go back and have a look at it (Boodles), it wasn't that disappointing, he never got into the race. It was a very, very messy race. It was obviously disappointing on the day, but the race didn't work out. He's a nice horse and we'll have a bit of fun with him. We'll mix and match on the Flat and over jumps with him. He looks like he is well handicapped on the Flat. He travelled today like he did in Cork the first day with Davy Russell, so he's a nice horse. Galway was originally where I was going to go, but this race came along and we had to take our chance. Whether Galway comes a bit soon, I don't know. He's very quirky, he wasn't going a yard there the whole way and it was only when he got a bit of daylight he took off. Two out I didn't think I was going to win, but as soon as you pull him out he takes off. He's a hard enough ride. Some days he can be keen, he wasn't today but the last day in Galway he was, he's just hit and miss. Fair play to the lads as they had to make the call not to sell him after he won two bumpers. He enjoys being left alone to bowl along in front and in fairness to Kevin he always said to step him up in distance but I couldn't see it myself because he was so keen over two-miles. Last winter he didn't go on the heavy ground and it wasn't working out for us. He went up in trip and letting him bowl along in races has suited and he wants nice ground. I think he will be a cracking horse over fences but we'll see where things go over hurdles first. He is electric to jump and I think will be the same over fences. He is a nice horse going forward. this is great for the lads, they're having great craic from it and hopefully they get plenty luck with him. To be honest Galway was a rush job and he missed ten days two weeks out from the race and I shouldn't have really gone there but it was the aim for a long time. It was a mistake by me to send him,. He definitely took a blow in the dip there in a very competitive race, this was calmer waters, and he needed to be 110 percent going into it but was probably just short. I didn't have to do much after that, that put him right. He's come here against a lesser grade and won well. He's a lovely horse, the last day is the first day he was ever out of the money. He wasn't expensive as a store and he's been a really good servant to us and hopefully he's got another good year ahead. I thought he’d make a lovely chaser and he’d two very disappointing runs. I then ran him back over hurdles and he didn’t seem to get home so we said we’d try a tongue tie today and it seems to have worked. In fairness the owners are very lucky fellas, they've been lucky colours. This fella won four for them last year and they had another mare who won three or four for them as well. . He jumps fences alright so we might try that again. He's up (in the ratings) a bit over hurdles but he can go over hurdles as well. . Jumping helps him a bit, it gives him a little more pace. .
