We have all had to pull together on this one, frustrating. The last couple of runs she has been having a holiday, not going in (to stalls) on us. A cheap, fun horse we picked up at the HIT (Horses In Training) Sales. We have her about eight weeks and a solid filly for the all-weather. She ran a cracker the first night in the fillies' handicap. We had to iron a few things out with her. She has talent and hopefully she is a filly to look forward to for the winter months. Stephen (Mooney, assistant) is riding her out every day and we had to use the services of Will Hayes just to help her out on the weekend. We have spent all weekend with her, so we were practically living in the box with her the last couple of days!. It is magic, it is a proud moment in my life and it is great to get going with the licence. We are a little less than three weeks from taking it out and we have plenty that have hit the board. I'm delighted to get it and delighted that she was the first winner. She proved difficult, but we got there in the end. She's a half (sister) to a stakes winner, we were going to pitch her back into the February Sale or something like that - she will always have a bit of residual value. She was bought to do this job and hopefully the owners will have a bit of fun with her. I've worked with plenty of top international trainers and I have my experience now, we just need a little bit of luck and a little bit of support. Home is home and it is very competitive in Ireland. I rode his dad (Ten Sovereigns) a lot and his dad was very weak and then all of a sudden he came right. I think he won three races, including a Group 1, in three weeks. This lad didn't run as a two-year-old, he was obviously weak. I ride a bit of work for Kevin and I'm loving it. He was a steering job and I enjoy all steering jobs!. I got him off Ken Condon who had all the work done with him. He ran in a barrier trial and we got him after that. He improved from the barrier trial and he improved from the run in Cork. Leigh said she jumped well and he was able to get a little bit closer than normal. It is one thing to ride her that way, but she needs a little bit of space in on the rail and he got a bit of space. Things panned out for him and she has won well in the end. This is her grade. She has been running in those 75/80 races during the summer and she is just not able to compete at that level. Delighted to get her head in front and delighted the other horse ran well. The other horse will probably compete away here for the winter and she probably will as well. We'll see what the handicapper does. The two of these will only win in their grade and that is in 65s. This race is a 0-70, but it didn't look a true 0-70. I know it is only a 5lb opening, but it is a different kettle of fish when you get into that level. The 65 horses just don't have the class to maintain that pace and keep going. Both of mine are probably better than 65 horses, but they have their own few quirks and they just need to be in that 65 grade to get their head in front.

I thought Sean Davis' horse (Sayifyouwill) would win it, but these claimers can be very funny. We were weighted to beat the favourite (Shoot To Kill) with Skontonovski and Comfort Line. Nikki Swango was weighted to beat the whole lot of them, so I thought she was the best one in, in the race. I wasn't expecting a 1-2-3 now to be honest, but it was great. I had one in Laytown one day and I think it is the only one I can remember. He has been a great horse, a great servant and is rock-solid in his grade. In the likes of claimers, he is in at a right price. He's a good horse and good old fun.

It's been a little bit disappointing this year that we didn't get a win with him. I thought his coat had gone a little bit on us in the last couple of weeks and I just wasn't sure where we were with him. He battled it out well. They can lead you astray a little bit at this time of year because it's getting colder and some of them start to coat a bit quicker than others. I'd love to go to Bellewstown with him, as local lads own most of him, but with a penalty it probably wouldn't be the right thing.
