FormscanBy Gary Carson - JOE'S TURN was a cosy winner at Kilbeggan on his last outing and may be able to follow up despite a 10lb hike for that success. The Jet Away gelding was making his first start for Mark McNiff then, having run well when placed at the same track previously. He won a couple of point-to-points and is still unexposed over fences. Kadys Dirha chased him home last time and is entitled to be a big player on revised terms. My Friend The Wind has been running well over hurdles and switches back to fences now off a lower mark. He's another that has to come into calculations.

in fairness his is quirky and he'd have won in Kilbeggan only for what happened. I thought he'd win today but with all the rain, I got watery!. he likes to go a trip and is in great form. The horses were out of form but they are coming back now and he'll go for a same race again, or a hurdle. He is very much ground dependent and wouldn't want it any worse than yielding. He was a very backward horse last year and we left him off for three or four months and he seems to have turned the corner since he came in. His jumping has always been a problem for him, even though he has an awful lot of schooling done and jumped well today, bar the second last. It was a poor race but he did it well and he gave him a grand ride and everything worked out well. We gave him a couple of runs and he was a bit novicey, and this, that and the other. We thought he’d run a bit better in handicaps up to now, and I was disappointed with him the last day, but in fairness to Denis (O’Regan), he gave him a grand ride and learned in Tramore. We were wondering if we would stop or if we would keep going, and that’s why we were surprised about the money coming for him. He has worked well in the past and, in fairness, he was always going to be a stronger horse next year. We’re lucky with the way the race panned out and he’s owned by a pure gent in Jim Reaney, who also bred him. he is a great old favourite and Donagh gave him a peach of a ride and is a top class rider. Donagh won big pots for me as a claimer and has been coming in to me a few days a week recently. Punchestown races is always a big deal for us. Richard (Farrell, owner) was at school with me, many years ago, and we've been friends ever since. I've had seven horses for himself and his late father over the years but we never had any luck and unfortunately Dick passed away about 18 months ago. It's nice to win in the end.
