The Stewards enquired into an incident shortly after turning into the home straight involving Specific Gravity (FR), ridden by D. O'Brien, Glassatura, ridden by S. Foley, and Swordfight, ridden by W.M. Lordan, where it appeared Specific Gravity ran short of room and had to check. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned, in the presence of Michael O'Callaghan, trainer, representing A.P.O'Brien, trainer and master of D. O'Brien. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion the interference was caused accidentally and they took no further action. P.J. Smullen, rider of Koybig trained by K.J. Condon, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung badly left in the closing stages.
An extended handicap for three yrs old and upwards (80 = 10st) Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 5lb extra; for each race won. Any horse rated above 80 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 10st. Subsequently, the excess over 80 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any three year old rated above 80 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
