I'll see on Friday if that race is cutting up and we might throw him in. He just loves this place and I wish I had a few like him. Adrian McGuinness, trainer
S.B. Kelly, rider of Fastidious (GB) trained by M.D. O'Callaghan, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount reared up when the stalls opened and hung to the right during the race. The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Fastidious (GB), ridden by S.B. Kelly, and trained by M.D. O'Callaghan. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. M.D. O'Callaghan, trainer, stated that this animal had proven to be difficult in stalls and consequently was loaded last and hooded. He added that his charge had completely lost his form and therefore instructed the rider to jump off from the bad draw and track over to the rails, coax him along and to do his best. He also stated that this animal had been treated in recent times for a sore back but being an old horse he now has a few small issues and can hang in his home work. In his opinion he was satisfied with the ride having taken into consideration some mitigating factors including the amount of ground lost at the start. S.B. Kelly, rider, confirmed the instructions and added that he missed the break but having moved over to the rails he soon found his mount to be hanging badly to the right and from thereon he kept a good hold of his head as he considered that he may have knocked himself or could have caused problems if he had been taken off the bridle to race. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Fastidious was found to be coughing post race. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations.
