Walsh swoops late on Penhill
It was a masterclass in schooling and riding. He didn't jump the first two or three, and Ruby said he'd concentrate on getting him jumping after that,. I stopped watching him as I thought he'd no chance and was looking at Master Of Verse, who was given a fine ride by Bryan to challenge at the last. I couldn't believe it when I saw Ruby coming up on the rail. It was a spectacular ride as he didn't enjoy the hurdles.
Lingo holds on to spring shock
He's always that way,. He's improved an awful lot since his last run. We knew he'd run well and the ground was right. He wasn't doing a tap in front and Barry was riding him at every fence. My wife bred him and he's a half-brother to Bob Lingo who won the Galway Plate a few years ago. He might be back next year for the Galway Plate. This is my first winner here. We have only a couple of horses — we are dairy farmers. He's the only horse I have in training at the moment, as the other one I have is just a breaker.
Weld on the mark again with Eziyra
Pat said she is a big, immature filly and still has a lot to learn. She broke a bit slow but has a lot of natural talent,. She will handle very fast ground, and the ground today was as slow as she'd like. She is bred to stay well as there is plenty of stamina on her dam side. She will go for a Group race next, and I'd not be afraid of a mile.
Weld doubles up with Sikandarabad
He did it well. His only run was a good one at Leopardstown, and he had the form. He was held up in the spring and we gelded him which knocked the stuffing out of him,. He can go forward from here on. The second horse was rated 93 so we are probably looking at a Listed race or a Premier Handicap. That was his first run of the season so he'll come on from it. He's by Dr Fong so he'll love top of the ground, and I had a slight concern the ground may have gone on him.
Pipes blows away Mile rivals
She is a great filly to train, and has won her last four now which is not an ideal preparation for a premier handicap,. She's tough and Declan said she didn't handle the track and was hanging. She's in the Matron Stakes and we'll probably let her take her chance now. That will probably be her next race. She keeps improving and, while she goes on any ground, she loves soft ground. She loves racing, and if you leave her out in a paddock she will try to come out over the railing. She will be kept in training next year, and may go to Royal Ascot. We always felt she was a mile and a quarter filly, and she will step up to that trip next year. She has such a high cruising speed that she could make all over five furlongs.
McDonogh notches brace and Satchel a treble
He's come here three times and three times he's won,. He's in again on Saturday and in the big race on Sunday but I don't think he'll get in. I'll see on Friday if that race is cutting up and we might throw him in. He just loves this place and I wish I had a few like him.
Sprite dances to victory in last
We were a bit worried that she wouldn't stay the trip. We thought she was well handicapped but whether she was well enough handicapped to win at Galway was another thing. She was bought cheaply and has given the lads a lot of fun. A few of them are locals, one lad has come over from Germany and one rides out for us. Michael gave her a fantastic ride, and rode her with plenty of confidence.
