An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Cambridgeshire (IRE), ridden by Sean Levey and trained by Martyn Meade, which raced detached in the rear of the field, before being asked for its effort in the final 2 furlongs, and running on to finish ninth, beaten by 11 ¼ lengths.
The rider and the trainer’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Cambridgeshire (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated his instructions were to ride the race as he found it but was unable to carry out the instructions as the filly was fractious in the stalls, and as a result slowly away, a fact which he reported at Scales, and became unbalanced on the undulations.
He also added that, in his opinion, he felt that the 7 furlong trip was too sharp for the filly on this occasion.
The trainer’s representative confirmed that those were the instructions given and he was happy with the ride given, under the circumstances of Cambridgeshire (IRE) being slowly away and outpaced.
Their explanations were noted.
