We didn’t really know what to expect, but Jack (Kennedy) said you’d have to be impressed with what you saw there. He was happy with him. He’d plenty of schooling done at home and he should strengthen up as the season goes on. We’ll look at Christmas now with him. Gordon Elliott, trainer
The Raceday Stewards held an enquiry prior to race one, pursuant to Rule 87, to consider a report from the Veterinary Officer, Dr G. Adams, regarding Harsh, trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien. Evidence was heard from the Veterinary Officer and the trainer concerned. Dr. Adams reported that Harsh was presented for identification with a dry brown residue on its lips and inside of the mouth. Joseph Patrick O'Brien stated that Harsh had a small abrasion on the corner of its mouth and manuka honey had been applied today to the exterior of both sides of the mouth to help the healing process and stop the bit rubbing. Having considered all the evidence, including that the Veterinary Officer was satisfied that Joseph Patrick O'Brien had provided a reasonable explanation for the residue, the Raceday Stewards allowed Harsh to run on this occasion and ordered a full regulatory sample be taken post race
