Jumping the second hurdle, Thunderoad (GB), unplaced, veered sharply left-handed inconveniencing White Turf (IRE), unplaced, and badly hampering Shybairnsgetnowt (IRE), which was later pulled up, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Charlie Deutsch was questioned regarding his riding of Winged Isle (GB), which finished sixth of sixteen runners beaten 10 lengths, from turning into the home straight.
Deutsch stated that his instructions had been to settle Winged Isle (GB) mid-division and do his best on the gelding.
He explained that Winged Isle (GB) had been buzzy in the preliminaries, however travelled well for him and jumped satisfactorily throughout.
Deutsch added that Winged Isle (GB) initially came off the bridle leaving the back straight, whereupon he had bumped and squeezed the gelding along to maintain his position, before being inconvenienced entering the home straight when running into a pocket behind Chess Player (IRE) and the weakening Joint Account (IRE).
He further explained that despite continuing to nudge Winged Isle (GB) along after the third last hurdle, he had experienced difficulty in finding clear daylight between several weakening runners, before eventually angling the gelding widest approaching the final hurdle and availing himself of clear running.
From this point in the race, Winged Isle (GB) had responded positively to his urgings and found the line in a pleasing manner.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
