Permission was given for SMEATON’S LIGHT (IRE) to go early to post wearing a red hood.
The Starter reported Impeach (IRE) was the subject of a third criteria failure.
Conrad Allen was informed that the gelding could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.
As it was the second occasion within the previous 12 months that Impeach (IRE) had been reported, a further report within the same period would mean the gelding would be prevented from having a stalls test for 6 months.
Marco Ghiani, the rider of Impeach (IRE), drawn 9, had appeared not to keep straight from the stalls.
After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, the rider was suspended for 1 day.
George Bass, the rider of SMEATON’S LIGHT (IRE), placed fifth, had appeared to ride less vigorously shortly before the winning post.
After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Bass explained that he felt the gelding become unbalanced half a furlong out so thought it prudent to ride out hands and heels and, in his opinion, SMEATON’S LIGHT (IRE) lost no momentum as a result.
His explanation was noted.
