An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race following interference on two occasions from 2 furlongs out and inside the final furlong involving the winner, Captain Winters (GB), ridden by Kevin Stott and Runaholic (IRE), placed second, ridden by Daniel Muscutt.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved the placing of Captain Winters (GB) as although Runaholic (IRE) had received a bump on a couple of occasions, at no point did the colt lose any momentum and Muscutt didn’t stop riding.
Captain Winters (GB) always appeared to be holding Runaholic (IRE) with the winning margin being a head.
The interference was found to be accidental, as in the first incident 2 furlongs out, Captain Winters (GB) lugged quickly left despite Stott’s best efforts and in the second incident inside the final furlong, Captain Winters (GB) hung left again despite Stott’s continuing best efforts to keep straight.
The performance of Ohnojoe, which finished unplaced, was considered.
Phil Dennis reported that the colt ran too freely and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
