Having reviewed the start, the Stewards were satisfied that Blazon (GB) had refused to race and was deemed to be a runner.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of The Rocket Park (IRE), ridden by Howard Cheng and trained by John Berry, which got overly detached from halfway before making rapid headway in the closing stages to finish third, beaten by 1¼ lengths.
The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding shortly after the race failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated his instructions had been to be jump well from the flag start as The Rocket Park (IRE) had been slowly away in the past, and then be positive.
The rider added that after jumping off on terms the gelding had not handled the softer ground going down the hill and was suffering from the kickback which caused The Rocket Park (IRE) to become detached when the pace rapidly quickened, a fact he had reported at Scales.
He further added that when encountering better ground and following encouragement the gelding ran on over the final 2 furlongs and was passing tired horses.
The trainer confirmed the instructions and stated that he was satisfied the ride accorded with those instructions, adding that he was concerned The Rocket Park (IRE) was not travelling on the ground entering the loop before running on well again and passing, in his opinion, tired horses in the closing stages.
Their explanations were noted.
Following the race, Daniel Muscutt reported that Where's Tom (GB), unplaced, suffered interference rounding the home bend and Georgia Dobie reported that Kings Royal Hussar (FR), unplaced, ran too freely.
