FormscanBy Tom Weekes - Frankel-sired BALTIC BIRD is forgiven his recent Galway hurdling disappointment as he had previously run very well in a prestigious race at that festival five days earlier. He finished fourth to one Extensio at Fairyhouse in July and being a strong stayer, is well suited by this distance. Royal Eagle finished third over hurdles at the Galway festival and again ran well on the flat at Tramore recently. She also stays well and today's different rider again claims 7lb but doesn't appear ahead of the handicapper. Reina Del Mar could be suited by trying this extreme flat distance for the first time and today's rider claims 5lb.

The last day was a non event, he stood in the stalls and the race was over. Lucky enough we were in last today which was a big help. His three runs before that were very good and I thought one day he might just come good. He's after running around 20 times on the Flat and has never won. Dylan said he was going to keep it simple today. He said if he came out, he would ride him real positive. If he fell in a hole up the straight, so be it. He stayed going. To win five lengths, I couldn't believe it. That was a 95 handicap - there was only one horse rated over 95 and the rest of them were in the 80s (and 70s), but he won well. He's basically running away here until he gets a bit of nice ground to go back over jumps. He wants good ground. He has a wind issue, so he gets away with it on nice ground. As soon as the weather dries up, he will go back over hurdles. It was great and Adam's (Lord, owner) two sons Adam and Jack have done a lot of work with her at home. One of the first horses I had in training Salford City, who Adam owned, got me going and it is nice to get another winner for him. She had a low weight and I thought she'd run alright as she was getting a stone off the favourite and had a good run at Dundalk the last day. She liked the ground and jumped well.
