FormscanBy Gary Carson - TONAGHNEAVE WELL may be able to make a winning start in handicap company. The four-year-old has been very consistent and won a good maiden at Gowran Park early last month. He went down by half a length to the progressive Ol Man Dingle at Wexford last time and doesn't look badly treated off an initial mark of 119. The Mediator had been frustrating before opening his hurdling account in fine style at Fairyhouse. With that confidence boosting win under his belt he could play a big part again. Hashtag Pretender similarly gained an overdue win last time and is another to consider on his handicap debut.

He’s a nice horse that lad. His first run was behind A Dream To Share but he just lost his way. I think he’s just a big, weak horse and it took him a bit of time to get going. We treated him for a few issues and he’s come back after a good break showing plenty of ability. He likes that good ground and Denis gave him a peach. I've always been into horses and my father David was a good rider but probably gave up prematurely. He rode professionally and was stable jockey to Michael Hourigan at the start. I gave up riding and did a college course but being indoors wasn't very good for me!. I had another mare who won a maiden hurdle at Wexford (in 2021) and she is in foal now. All my family were there that day and they're here today as well, so it is brilliant. I'm delighted for Anthony who works for me and he claimed the horse. I recommended him for E10,000 as he was looking for a horse to ride and I thought this fella would give him plenty of fun. He is a quirky horse who can take off after jumping the last and I'm delighted for Anthony. We're only waiting two or three years for that!. He's had five seconds and a third but he has run into good horses every time. The horse in Killarney came out and won a good race in Listowel. Looking at it you'd question if he's genuine or not but he is but he's just been unfortunate really. Today was his day. He handles quick ground, the time was 3.45 there so it's proper good ground. We'll put him into a handicap now and see what mark we get. He'll go novice chasing during the summer next year but I'd say for the moment we'll just play it by ear.
