FormscanBy Alan Magee - Railway Hurricane beat all bar the progressive Mousey Brown over a similar trip at Punchestown last month with SLANE HILL about ten lengths behind in sixth. The Barry Connell-trained gelding, winner of his only previous chase start, was right in contention when pecking badly three out and has plenty of scope for improvement. Tag Man won a maiden hurdle at Listowel last autumn and got his chasing career off to a winning start when beating Moonovercloon at Clonmel last month, while French Dynamite hasn’t raced in handicap company since second to Ga Law off a similar mark in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham in 2022.

I've always loved this horse but he is mentally fragile, although is going the right way. He jumped beautifully, having been a bit novicey last year and we rode him more positively as we wanted to try something different. hopefully he is a National type horse and you'd hope he will take a step forward with more experience as it was only his fifth run over fences. He is a pure natural with an obstacle coming to him. Paul (Nicholls, previous trainer) had a few issues with him but mentally he is coming along the whole time and I was very pleased they allowed me to take him back. He travels and jumps in this deep stuff and if that can do that, it is a big benefit to them. He's a fine big horse, he has plenty of scope and the ground is beautiful out there. He disappointed us in Gowran the last day, but the ground was typical heavy Gowran ground. He won his maiden hurdle in Naas and then ran a nice race in Gowran. He was favourite there the last day, but just got stuck in it. I wasn't sure what way he'd go today, he had schooled great. It was just really to get his confidence back and give him something different to do. He was a bit guessy at a few. He has so much scope that he was kind of getting too brave. Two out he stood outside the wings and then he landed on his head. I'd say it knocked the stuffing out of him, he went from travelling really well to having to chase after him. He seems to handle that ground lovely, and country tracks, so we'll keep him on the go. He'll be a novice until November now. He won half a length there, so I suppose he (handicapper) can't be too hard on him. It was an ordinary race, although Clondaw Hollow had some good back form. I'm delighted for the Byrnes as we chose not to go to (local) Listowel last week because of the ground. We ended up here and while it wasn't ideal for him, he handled it well. He was keen early but Rachael was very keen to hold him up as he ran so blind in Galway. Once they went on, he jumped great and she was brilliant on him.
