A touch of Italy in Punchestown opener
He was bought at the Arc Sale last year (70K Euro). We didn't want to win an ordinary race last season with him and lose his novice status. We took a shot at some good races with him.
Freedom Steps closer To the top
He made a mistake two out which would have stopped most horses. Robbie said he then just panicked a bit and actually got there too soon. He went on that ground super . it was no problem to him at all. Even against those horses he's some jumper and you'd excuse him that bit of a fumble two out. The Royal Bond is on the cards now although Down Royal could be an option too. As it stands though Oscars Well will go there unless the ground is too quick. Oscars Well is still relatively inexperienced over hurdles and I'd like to give him a chance at that game again this season. He'll have the option of going chasing later on anyway.
Ruby gets a tune out of another grey mare
That's the second horse Ruby has ridden for me and they've both won (the other being Duers). She's a bit of a lady but she's been in such good form lately that she deserved the champion rider. She might now go for a three mile chase at Thurles next week. She's a law unto herself. A few times at Bellewstown she stopped when she hit the front.
Lucky William now showing his true worth
We always thought he was a good horse and he'll go for the Drinmore now. He winged his fences but when he hit the front he thought he'd done enough. He's a better horse this season . mentally and physically. He is so versatile as regards ground and anywhere from two to two and a half miles is his trip.
I was always happy. I rode him the other morning and felt he'd improved from last season. He just lobbed along there today . it was very straight-forward. Gordon indicated before that he's thinking of going for the Nicholson race in Down Royal.
He done it well. He's only five and he gallops away all day. Better ground today helped him. He'll have a break now and come back in the spring.
I think he's a real good horse. He went well in a schooling hurdle lately. He's such an unreal horse to jump that I don't want to run him too much in bumpers.
