He needed to do that. JJ had a bit of a mishap with him in Fairyhouse in the Bobbyjo so we wanted to get them to gel a bit more. It would be (important) when you are going around there (Aintree). He jumped great and handles the ground and it was lovely to see. He was (value for the winning margin), you would never know how much you have left with him as he just only does enough. When something comes to him, he stretches them a little bit again. He did (run a cracker for a long way in the Grand National). He probably over-raced himself, he was very fresh on the day. That's why I wanted to get a race closer to the National into him, so he wouldn't be too buzzed up. Darragh (O'Keeffe) gave him a great ride (in the Grand National), he had a fantastic round of jumping and all roads lead back there now.

he is obviously held in high regard and even on his novice hurdle form was running in Grade 1s. Today looked an ideal race to get his head back in front but he is obviously a staying chaser. I presume all roads lead back to Aintree and this is a nice stepping stone in the right direction. It was a nice peformance considering it was only 2m4f and we hacked around. He is very slick to jump; he is a proper horse and all those horses have that — they know what they are doing. it is great to get another winner for Martin (Brassil) and the Mulryans and great for Paddy Aspell to lead me up on a winner. It is my first winner for the Mulryans, they are the big owners in Martin's yard so it is nice to be involved. J.J. (Slevin) is their new retained rider but on days like this I don't mind being first reserve.

He got a good start and Darragh said he never missed a beat. He was always able to take him back and give him a breather. I would have said he was more effective on heavy ground but he seemed to handle that. I know it's soft but there's a bit more life in it today. He just really enjoyed it. He came alive when he came into the ring, he was really fresh and bright in himself. When horses are healthy and well, they don’t take a lot of training. The last time I had a runner in the race was when Numbersixvalverde won it (in 2005). They’re great races to win, these historic races, won by some great horses going back the years. It’s only his second run in a handicap but he came from a good school. Derek O’Connor schooled him in his point to point, so I didn’t have to do too much schooling. There’s an entry closing on Monday for Aintree, and we’ll think of the Irish National as well. They’re the type of races we’ll be looking at.

He’s a horse that we always thought would need a trip and he handles the ground. He had the experience from his few runs over fences and he was fit. I don’t like seeing horses getting beaten three or four times in a row. It’s nice to get their head in front and it can change their whole approach to things. He’s not a Grade 1 horse so we may look at novice handicaps in the spring over an extended trip.

He looks to be a nice horse. Hopefully we'll find out a bit more when he steps into something else. I haven't anything planned and we might look at a graded race in the New Year. We'll probably make an entry anyway in the Grade 1 at Naas and that would be an ideal place as well. Derek seemed to be quite impressed with him anyway. He's never got beaten on him as he won his point-to-point and his bumper on him. He's a horse to look forward to. Maybe we'll have better days but we won't know that until we delve into that area. It's nice to have a horse like him anyway.

He's done nothing but please us since we got him. He won his point-to-point well and he jumps really. Derek liked him so he recommended him and he's a good judge. I only have him since February and he's really thrived since I got him. He'll go jumping in the autumn and he's a real winter horse really. He handled that ground nicely and he's a lovely horse to look forward to.
