There wasn't a suitable chase for him until Christmas but it was always the plan to go back over hurdles. He has won five races and Oliver and Marie are fantastic owners who leave me do my own thing - if there is a mistake made, it is due to me. The horse has built on promise and we let him improve away over fences. That has given him confidence and we are using his hurdle mark at the right time. We might even look at going across the water with him at some stage as I think English racing - where they go a gallop in front, will suit him. One or two of my horses had underperformed in the last fortnight and it is hard to regain confidence all the time but he had been working very well during the week. It is two weeks since we had a winner - it feels like two months, but we were hoping for a big big run.

He ran in a chase at Ballinrobe a couple of months ago and we felt he ran a little bit flat so we gave him a holiday afterwards,. He had a nice break and did very well. He came back with the idea of running in Galway but I just felt he wasn't ready enough. . I had seen this race and we said we'd target it. The chase he ran in at Ballinrobe had nine runners and four of them have won since so it's amazing the way form works out. . I didn't think this was the strongest chase in the world tonight and he has run very well over hurdles here before over two miles so the step up to two-three here was never going to be a problem. I thought it was a good opportunity. . He's rated 100 over hurdles so we'll probably go back that route in the winter at some stage.

He was very fizzy in his earlier days and I thought he'd improve with racing, but it is only now he is starting to settle in the stable yard and in his races. We don't plait him and he is left to his own in his stable and is getting the hang of things now and is getting confident. Darragh (O'Keeffe, jockey) said his jumping is extremely good and he seems to be going the right way. This race, without being rude to it, broke up into an ordinary race and he was in off a nice weight.

I'm delighted to have a winner for the Barden family- they are the most supportive owners anyone could possibly have, they are amazing. Oscar Romero won for them at the start of the season as well. I thought this guy was unlucky at Punchestown. They went very slow and he was the only horse from far back to get into it. I asked Darragh O'Keeffe, who is suspended today, should we hold on to him again and he said to ride him the same way. There was a little bit more pace today and he won very well. We will see how he comes out of this but I know Oliver would love a runner in Galway. He is entered in a few of the handicaps there, but it might come a bit soon after today because of the weather. I left home at 8pm yesterday evening and I got here after midnight to try avoid travelling in the heat. I thought I was coming here with chances but I was a bit disappointed with the filly in the first. I'm delighted that this lad has made up for it now. We've made a lot of effort to keep them out of the heat and they've drank well since they got here. The track were hugely accommodating.
