He gave him a brilliant ride, he got an easy lead in front but he did everything perfect and I'm happy out with him. He was very consistent last year for us, we were a little bit disappointed the last couple of times but he's older and it's probably a little bit harder to get him fit. He was brilliant today and as long as the ground stays soft we'll keep running him. We might even give him a run over fences. He's a lovely horse to have and I'm delighted for the owner who is my landlord as well.

In fairness to Ian, he came up with the plan. He said there is not going to be much pace and that he'd make the running. I said to him 'if this goes wrong everyone will think I'm after losing it!' He jumped off last in Clonmel but made all today. . Ian has been around the block and knows his stuff. He gave him a serious ride, he is a talented rider. . I was giving out about the handicapper giving us 8lb, but I can't really give out now. We will see what the handicapper does, but we actually have him in a handicap chase here tomorrow, he is third reserve. If there is a couple of non-runners I wouldn't mind coming back. If he gets in, he'll come back. . We have 10 riding out and it's just myself and my wife Claire at home. She has done all the work with this horse.

That winner is owned by my landlord so I'll be safe for another 12 months!. It was an absolutely brilliant ride - when I saw the race conditions I spoke to John O'Mahoney, who looks after the Curraghmore gallops, and asked him which jockey to get for a 10-winner (in a year) race and he said to get Ian. He gave the horse a peach. He ran too free when he finished second in Cork the last day and the way he ran, should have finished fifth or sixth. He is very ground-dependent and wants soft to heavy so we may run out of time with him but there is a race at Tramore for him on Sunday week. I'm delighted for Paddy (Meaney) as a lot of lads wouldn't have shown as much patience with the horse, who is nine. I have 10 riding out, we are small fish but we don't want to get much bigger and want quality rather than quantity.
