Fairyhouse Sun, 1st Dec, 2024
La Malmason she was very good although we were clutching at straws with her but she had kissing spine surgery during the summer and it's obviously done the trick: she had been making a lot of mistakes last year so we got her checked out at the end of the season. I was a little bit concerned the ground wouldn't be slow enough as she'd appreciate softer going and will definitely get further. I'm delighted with the way she jumped today, Keith said when he jumped the first he knew she was a different mare so hopefully she can kick on from here. I haven't looked beyond today, this was the plan although I couldn't rule out the Thyestes or an Irish National. I'm delighted to get a winner at this meeting; we got one in Navan (Troytown weekend) and if you can have a winner at these big meetings it's great.

Stumptown He’s taken to it so well, he loves it. He’s careful enough over his fences in chases and you might think that he wouldn’t have the heart for it but he’s taken to it really well. There is a race at Cheltenham in December and he’ll probably go there. I don’t know too much about it but Keith says the course is very different to here. We’ll be happy to get him over there at the next meeting and get him around it. That was Vanillier's first time over them (cross-country obstacles) and you would be happy enough with him (finished a running-on sixth). It generally takes him a run.

Only By Night She jumped brilliant and is very good to jump although I thought we were in bother going along the side but she found plenty for pressure. I'm delighted with her. We won't lose the run of ourselves but it was a good performance and she will go further too. There is a nice programme for mares here and she could also travel to the UK too so we'll see.

Total Look we bought him as a yearling to go juvenile hurdling in the long-term, so everything is after working out to plan: it doesn't often happen like that! He's a lovely horse going forward, has plenty of size and scope and should keep improving. He is a very athletic type of horse. He is ground versatile but I'd say that is beautiful ground for him and he will handle softer ground as well. He is still a very immature horse, but that leaves you plenty of improvement. I'd say Fairyhouse (in early December) is probably too soon but I wouldn't rule anything out. I don't really have many juveniles to run: obviously, Hello Neighbour is an exciting one as well.

Pinot Gris That was grand, the blinkers worked a treat. He's a lazy, idle type of a horse and they just made him concentrate. If you look back to the Lartigue, he had a wander around up the straight and it's a pity we didn't have them on him then. We'll maybe look for a handicap somewhere and he's big enough to jump a fence in time.
