The Starter reported that Ravenous (GB), drawn 7, had anticipated the start and hit its head, causing it to be slowly away.
Approximately two furlongs out Final Rock (GB), unplaced, edged marginally left-handed down the camber causing Mister Chiang (GB), placed fifth, to shy away and make contact with Overhaugh Street (GB), placed eighth, which made contact with and bounced off the rail back onto Mister Chiang (GB) which was taken right-handed turning the quarters of Final Rock (GB).
After viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held to consider two incidents of interference in this race the first approximately one furlong out, and the second inside the final half furlong, but both involving the winner, Htilominlo (GB), ridden by Jason Watson, Black Kalanisi (IRE), placed second, ridden by Charles Bishop, and Agent Basterfield (IRE), placed third, ridden by David Probert.
The Stewards considered that taken collectively, the two incidents of interference had improved the placing of Black Kalanisi (IRE) as the aggregate of the ground, balance and momentum lost in the two incidents cost the gelding more than the short head by which his was beaten.
Furthermore, Black Kalanisi (IRE) appeared to make ground on the winner after the first incident to get his nose in front before receiving a second bump from Htilominlo (GB).
However, It was considered that HTLOMINLO had not improved its placing over Agent Basterfield (IRE) who received minimal interference and was well held by a further neck in third.
The placings were revised as follows: Black Kalanisi (IRE) first, Htilominlo (GB), second, and Agent Basterfield (IRE), third.
Watson was cautioned for careless riding for the first incident for allowing his mount to drift left-handed without sufficient correction, taking Black Kalanisi (IRE) off its intended line and causing it to make contact with Agent Basterfield (IRE).
In addition, he was cautioned for careless riding for the second incident for allowing his mount to drift left-handed away from the whip giving Black Kalanisi (IRE) a bump and causing it to make contact with Agent Basterfield.
