The booking of Ruby Walsh aboard bottom weight KENAH HILL proved significant as the Eric McNamara-trained gelding followed through on some promise shown over a variety of distances this term. He was ridden wide throughout and made up ground smoothly after three out. A tendency to veer left under pressure on the run-in was noticeable but he still stretched clear in the style of one likely to be best served by two and a half miles.
DUERS was also patiently ridden to hold every chance two out but could find no extra under pressure and was soundly beaten as the winner drew away in the closing stages. The well-backed favourite ASIAN ROYALE was never far from the leaders but could not raise his game from the home turn, while morning gamble (33's to 9/1) SIR VINE failed to make the expected improvement from two modest handicap runs earlier this season being pulled up before the last.
REBEL RUN was not abused to stay on one paced in sixth, and his rider later reported that the horse choked before three out and would prefer better ground.
An extended handicap hurdle for four yrs old and upwards rated 81-102 Penalties - Winner of a hurdle race after calculation of the handicap to carry 6lb extra for each hurdle race won.
