Permission was given for Patriciadplasterer (IRE) to be mounted on the course.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Mighty Meg (GB), ridden by David England and trained by Olly Murphy, which was held up in rear throughout until being asked for an effort in the back straight on the final circuit before then staying on under apparent tender handling down the home straight to finish sixth of eleven runners, beaten by 14 lengths.
The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the mare found her to be displaying a prolonged recovery rate.
The rider stated that his instructions had been to drop in, get the mare to settle as she is an anxious type and ensure Mighty Meg (GB) was finishing its race off.
England explained that his mount was interfered with jumping the first hurdle and lost ground, but moreover had been unsuited by the muddling tempo of the race which developed into a sprint from halfway down the back straight on the final circuit.
He added that Mighty Meg (GB) had initially been outpaced when the tempo increased before staying on one-paced through to the line.
In his opinion he thought the mare would benefit from a more truly run race, where there is more emphasis on stamina, in addition to a possible step up in trip or a more galloping track.
The trainer confirmed the instructions and that the ride accorded with them, before adding that he was satisfied with the manner in which Mighty Meg (GB) had been ridden.
Murphy also stated that he concurred with England's summary of the race and would take those factors into account when considering where the mare has her next start.
Their explanations were noted.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Dylan's Sea Song (GB), placed second, lost its right- hind shoe.
