An enquiry was held into the riding of Bishop Hill (IRE), ridden by Patrick Wadge and trained by Lucinda Russell, which raced in rear to be ridden under hands and heels to finish fifth of ten runners, beaten by fifteen lengths.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination, during routine testing of Bishop Hill (IRE), failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Wadge explained that his instructions were to drop in and settle Bishop Hill (IRE) this being her hurdle debut.
He added that the filly has raced keenly for being ridden prominently in her last two bumper runs and felt that it was important to ride the filly towards the rear to try to relax and find a good rhythm.
Wadge explained that Bishop Hill (IRE) was jumping carefully at several flights and felt the filly was racing at full speed leaving the back straight to then stay on one paced under a hands and heels ride up the home straight to finish fifth, which in his opinion had obtained the best possible placing.
