We put the blinkers on him because Ben (Coen) thought the last day that he does look around a bit and he needs to concentrate. I thought seven furlongs at the Curragh today would suit him well. I'm delighted for the owner Noel (Hartley) who has backed us for the last couple of years. It's been hard to win races for him. To win a race at the Curragh means a lot and he's absolutely delighted. The Raceday Stewards interviewed P. McGettigan, rider of King Thistle (GB), concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who accepted he was in breach of the regulation and apologised for his actions. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that P. McGettigan was in breach of Regulation 10.3.g (excessive frequency) and having considered the inexperience of the rider the Raceday Stewards felt a penalty below that in the guidelines was appropriate so they suspended P. McGettigan for one raceday. P. McGettigan was accompanied at this enquiry by Mr. K. Brothwick
J.J.G. Ryan, rider of Churchill Gale, trained by T.G.McCourt, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount hung right throughout.
