Permission was given for Scoffsman (GB) to go early to post and for Derry Boy (GB) to go early and be led to post.
Having reviewed the start, the Stewards were satisfied that Scoffsman (GB) had refused to race after the start had been effected and was therefore deemed to be a runner.
The Starter reported that Beatbybeatbybeat (GB) was reluctant to enter the stalls.
The representative of Antony Brittain was informed that the mare could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.
As it was the second occasion within the previous 12 months that Beatbybeatbybeat (GB) had been reported, a further report within the same period would mean the mare would be prevented from having a stalls test for 6 months.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Dark Devil (IRE), ridden by Barry McHugh and trained by Patrick Morris which broke slowly and was settled towards the rear of the field before staying on under a hands and heels ride in the home straight to finish eighth of the thirteen runners, beaten by 5 lengths.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination, during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated that he did not receive any specific instructions from the trainer as he knew Dark Devil (IRE) having ridden the gelding before.
He explained that the gelding was slowly into stride and found himself further back in the field than ideal.
He added that he was unsuited by the slow pace throughout and when the leaders quickened approaching the home bend, he was unable to wind up with his run due to having nowhere to go.
Once balanced in the home straight, he asked Dark Devil (IRE) for his effort whereupon he stayed on at the one pace.
His explanation was noted.
Following the race, Tom Marquand reported that Creative Talent (IRE), unplaced, hung left-handed.
