Winged Spur (IRE) wore earplugs which were removed at the start.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Carbon Dating (IRE) ridden by Tadhg O’Shea and trained by Andrew Hughes which was held up in rear before staying on strongly to finish fourth of thirteen beaten 5 lengths.
The rider was interviewed and the Veterinary Officer reported a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider reported at scales that the gelding was denied a clear run for some considerable time 2 furlongs out.
He stated his instructions were to hold the gelding up, which was the usual way of riding Carbon Dating (IRE).
He added that he had ridden the gelding many times and he is a difficult ride who often loses interest if he is forced early on.
He further added that he was happy with his position until 2 ½ furlongs out when he found that he was stuck in a pocket due to Royal Cosmic (GB) to his left.
He explained that as he switched left to get a run, Royal Cosmic (GB) also shifted left carrying him into the middle of the track.
He felt that when being denied a clear run 2 ½ furlongs out this had caused him to make his challenge later than he would have liked and that he felt that had he been able to get out sooner, he may have finished third.
His explanation was noted.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Euro Implosion (IRE), placed third, lost its right front shoe.
The representative of Ralph Beckett reported that Isabella Brant (FR), unplaced, was unsuited by the Good ground which in his opinion was riding quicker than the official description, and would prefer a slower surface.
