John Quinn had obtained prior permission from the BHA to run Captain Jameson (IRE) partially shod.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Tomily (IRE), ridden by Jamie Gormley and trained by Iain Jardine, which appeared to jump well before racing in mid-division and then appearing to be tenderly handled in the final 2 furlongs, to finish sixth, beaten by 8 lengths.
The rider and the trainer’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Tomily (IRE) revealed the gelding to be coughing post-race.
The rider stated his instructions were to jump well and sit handily throughout the race, and ride the race as it unfolded.
He added that having ridden the gelding on several occasions, he felt that, as usual Tomily (IRE) jumped well but then appeared to be outpaced in the early part of the race which was unusual for the gelding as he usually travels well and races prominently.
He further added that he had ridden all the way to the line and that, in his opinion he had obtained the best possible placing.
The trainer’s representative stated that the ride accorded with the instructions and that she was satisfied with the ride given.
Their explanations were noted.
The performance of Zylan (IRE), which finished unplaced, was considered.
Roger Fell reported that the gelding was unsuited by the going which was officially described as Soft, and would prefer a quicker surface.
Zylan (IRE) was routine tested.
