A trappy looking contest on paper and An Tadh appeared to benefit from the drop back to the minimum trip as he regained winning ways.

Tucked in behind the leaders he moved up to challenge a furlong out and soon got his head in front, edging ahead from 100 yards out.

English raider Knot In The Wood tracked leader Flash McGahon and was one of three in a line at the furlong pole. He stayed on gamely without matching the winner close home.

Flash McGahon took them along but had no more to offer in the final furlong once headed.

He also had an 'in and out season' last year after a fine run to chase home Dandy Man first time up. This was a decent effort but it remains to be seen whether he can recapture his best.

Johnstown Lad had a bit to find at the weights and never looked like troubling the front ones while 50/1 shot Parc Aux Boules predictably never counted.

Daring Man was a non-runner, reported lame.
