Under top weight Scotsirish showed his class as did his pilot Ruby Walsh when they combined to land the Grade A contest by four lengths. It was a test for the seven-year-old put forward by Mullins who said, "I always thought he was a Grade 1 horse so I was hopeful we would carry top weight."
It was a peach by Walsh, who cruised through in his own time without any panic and his faith in Scotsirish was justified.
Only time will tell if he will be capable of stepping up to Grade 1 contests as his trainer hopes, but that will be where he is aimed, with a preference for good ground.
Double Dizzy was unlucky to meet one better on the day but he looked to have ran a career best on this occasion. He took it up before half way and put up a bold effort from the front only to be defeated by the classy Scotsirish.
Ambobo was a Naas winner before going on to be far from disgraced at Cheltenham and Martin Brassil's charge is a small little horse with a big heart and that ensures a honest showing every time.
He will probably be hard to place next season but should be able to pick up his fair share with ground not appearing to be a problem.
Tom Hogan's Classic Croco was fourth and in truth he probably ran a shade better than his rating on this occasion but he was overpriced at 50/1. He had been third behind Sky's The Limit last November and he would appear to have a better mark to be attacking with even if not of the class of Ambobo.
Well Run was pulled up last time out in the Irish National and finished fifth on this occasion. He ran well for a long time here but never quickened on the dead ground while Notable D'Estruval ran a blinder following his exploits when winning earlier in the week. Burren Ben never really got into contention
