1st - €8,637.50, 2nd - €2,125.00, 3rd - €1,000.00, 4th - €625.00 12 Ran The consistent Soap Wars gained a welcome and deserving success here on what was the son of Acclamation's fourth career start. It was a smart performance from the winner who was having his first run since being gelded and from a wide draw of 10, he was helped all the way by a good ride from pilot Rory Cleary.
On the basis of his run behind Billyford in a handicap here back in September and then his narrow defeat in the Birdcatcher at Naas, he was a deserving maiden victor.
Tuscan Evening was likely to be sent off favourite but she was a non runner after trainer John Murphy reported his charge to be in season.
Observation Post was slightly reluctant at entering the stalls and punters were slightly reluctant to back him too as he was a slight drifter from 2/1 out to 3's and he could only finish fourth.
He took it up early on under Johnny Murtagh but he could only plug away once both Soap Wars and Lena Rice came to challenge and went by him. Indeed Fay Street finished that bit better to touch off Observation Post for the minor money.
Lena Rice had four chances to break her maiden as a two-year-old and was unlucky to just come up against one better on this occasion. David Wachman and connections should not be waiting too long to gain a first win with this daughter of Rock Of Gibraltar who should come on for the run. A repeat of the run behind the highly regarded Jupiter Pluvius should be good enough and a slight ease would probably be no harm.
Ken Condon's Fay Street has been in the money on all three starts this term and again would be a worthy winner and his consistent knocking on the door is bound to reap rewards in the near future.
Dash Back was the best backed runner in the field but despite being handy enough she just failed to show any spark at the business end and only finished in front of one other runner.
