Dahra One ran out a convincing winner of this decent maiden hurdle and Lar Byrne?s charge really did leave a lot of fancied runners reeling under Tom Doyle. The trainer later remarked on how he fancied the five-year-old to score here saying that he is a ?serious horse but is still a big baby.?
A campaign over fences next season is now on the agenda for this one who was reportedly green when making his hurdling debut back in October. Today he raced prominently throughout and alongside Like A Duke they went into a 10-length lead early in proceedings.
The field came back to that pair on the approach to two out and while Like A Duke could only manage to stay on to be fifth, Dahra One went on in good fashion.
Metitorious was purchased by JP McManus before his last run at Navan and he disappointed that day when well backed to lose his maiden tag and he just held off Tony Martin?s Horse Man Pass By here to finish a well beaten second.
Metitorious (who made a bad mistake three out) and Horse Man Pass By should both be capable of landing a similar contest in due course with the latter showing significant improvement on his debut at Gowran Park earlier in the month.
Road Home was well fancied to further boost the form of a maiden hurdle won by Taravada at Christmas and follow on from his run last time out behind Old Si but he never really jumped or travelled like a winner here and a mistake three out certainly put paid to his chances. He eventually finished seventh.
Ragtime Lucy was making a quick reappearance after finishing third behind a winning debutant Kronos and odds on shot Direct Exit last week at Down Royal and he should be up to losing his maiden tag before very long.
Incidentally the winner Dahra One appeared to come off a straight line going past the post and Tom Doyle reported that his mount just ducked away slightly from the stewards viewing stand.
Sean Flanagan rider of Montys Mate reported to the stewards secretary that his saddle slipped in running and he pulled up accordingly.
