The Stewards interviewed S.W. Flanagan, rider of Abbey Magic, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence S.W. Flanagan stated that he had misjudged the number of times that he had used his whip and had breached the guidelines by one. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that S.W. Flanagan was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his previous record into consideration and pursuant to R10(6)(a), the Stewards suspended S.W. Flanagan for six racedays.
An extended handicap steeplechase for four years old and upwards Weights - Top weight in the original handicap and after the time of declaration shall not be less than 11st 10lbs and the minimum weight shall not be less than 9st 12lbs Penalties - Winner of a steeplechase or steeplechases after calculation of the handicap shall carry any penalty or penalties which may be allotted by the Handicapper.
