An enquiry was held to consider why Tony Carroll was running Doc Sportello (IRE) here at Sandown on going described as Good, Good to Firm in Places, having declared the gelding a non-runner at Bath on 21 August 2019 on ground with the same official description.
The trainer stated that, having walked both courses where Doc Sportello (IRE) had been declared to run, in his opinion, the ground at Bath appeared to be quicker than described with some rough patches and therefore believed the ground at Sandown today to be more suitable for Doc Sportello (IRE).
Leaving the stalls, Pink Iceburg (IRE), drawn 10, jumped sharply left-handed bumping Doc Sportello (IRE), drawn 11, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held to consider interference approximately 3 ½ furlongs out involving Joegogo (IRE), placed third, ridden by Angus Villiers and PINK ICEBERG (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Shane Kelly.
Being a 7Ib claimer Villiers was offered the opportunity to be accompanied in the enquiry but declined.
Kelly was suspended for 2 days for careless riding for allowing his mount to drift right-handed without sufficient or timely correction causing interference to Villiers for several strides.
Approximately 1 ½ furlongs out, the winner Enthaar (GB) hung sharply right-handed, despite the riders best efforts, making contact with Joegogo (IRE), placed third, which in turn tightened up Union Rose (GB), placed sixth and Leo Minor (USA), placed seventh, for room against the rail.
After viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of the winner Enthaar (GB).
Cieren Fallon, the rider of Leo Minor (USA), placed seventh, had appeared to ease his mount in the closing stages.
After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Fallon was suspended for 1 day for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing on a horse that could have finished sixth.
Following the race, Raul Da Silva reported that Union Rose (GB), which started second favourite and finished sixth, was denied a clear run and Oisin Murphy reported that Gnaad (IRE), which started favourite and finished fifth, was slowly away.
Jason Watson reported that the winner Enthaar (GB), hung right-handed under pressure and Cieren Fallon reported that Leo Minor (USA), placed seventh, was denied a clear run.
Adam Kirby reported that Major Blue (GB), unplaced, lost its action inside the final furlong and the Veterinary Officer reported that the gelding had lost its left fore shoe.
