Rhys Elliott, the rider of Masterpainter had fallen approaching the final furlong.
Rowan Scott, the rider of Whatwouldyouknow (IRE), and Ben Sanderson, the rider of Mr Heinz (GB), were interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, but Elliott was unable to be interviewed as he was being assessed by the Medical Team.
It was found that the incident was accidental and was caused by Mr Heinz (GB) shifting marginally right-handed causing a weakening Masterpainter (IRE) to be moved slightly off its intended line thus giving a bump to Whatwouldyouknow (IRE) causing the gelding to become unbalanced and shift left-handed, which in turn, moved Masterpainter (IRE) back behind Mr Heinz (GB), which then resulted in Masterpainter appearing to clip a heel, stumble and fall.
The winner, Wheres The Crumpet (GB), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Newcastle on 1 October 2024, where the mare finished tenth of twelve runners, beaten 13 ½ lengths.
David Thompson’s explanation that Wheres The Crumpet (GB) had benefitted from the drop back in trip from 1 mile 2 furlongs to 1 mile, was noted.
Wheres The Crumpet (GB) was routine tested.
Following the race, Oliver Stammers reported that Our Noble Lord (GB), unplaced, was slowly away.
