An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Rock On Tommy (GB), ridden by Fergus Gregory and trained by Olly Murphy which was tenderly handled at the rear of the field throughout, to finish seventh of fifteen runners, beaten 29 1/2 lengths.
The rider and the trainer’s representative were interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated that his instructions were to drop the gelding in and to give Rock On Tommy (GB) an educational run as he had ran green on bumper debut at Market Rasen 17 days ago.
He further added that Rock On Tommy (GB) had been keen and jumping moderately at home therefore his instructions were to get the gelding jumping while trying to keep him settled today.
The trainer’s representative stated that she agreed with the instructions and was satisfied with the ride given to Rock On Tommy (GB).
Fergus Gregory was suspended for 14 days and Olly Murphy was fined £3,000 for schooling and conditioning the horse on the racecourse in that the gelding had not been asked for timely, real or substantial effort on its first run over hurdles.
Rock On Tommy (GB) was suspended from running in any race for 40 days.
Following the race, David Bass reported that King Erik (GB), unplaced, lost its action.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of King Erik (GB), found the gelding to be lame right hind.
