The apparent improvement in form of the winner Volenti (IRE), which had never previously been placed, was considered.
Adam West explained that the gelding appeared to have resented the fitting of cheek pieces on its previous run and may have appreciated running on turf today for the first time and in a smaller field than on previous occasions.
His explanation was noted and Volenti (IRE) was routine tested.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding in the home straight of Ideal Guest (FR), ridden by Tom Queally, which appeared to be confidently ridden before finishing second beaten 1¾ lengths.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Queally stated that he had ridden the gelding similarly to its last two starts which were to ride from the front after the fitting of a visor in those runs and allow the gelding to use his stride.
Queally was of the view that Ideal Guest (IRE) had raced more keenly today than on his previous starts and as the gelding was carrying a significantly higher weight than its rivals, he had weakened in the home straight and his intentions were to nurse his mount home.
Queally added having asked for an effort approaching the final furlong, the gelding had no more to give and was easily beaten an extending 1¾ lengths.
He further added that in his opinion, had he asked Ideal Guest (IRE) for a stronger effort earlier in the straight, the gelding would have tired quicker.
Having heard his evidence and having reviewed the video footage, the Stewards noted his explanation.
Following the race, Jason Watson reported that City Vaults (GB), placed fifth, ran green.
