Permission was given for Global Humor (USA) and The Gay Blade (GB) to go to post early.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after 2 instances of interference, firstly approximately 1 furlong out and again approaching the line, when the winner Darbucks (IRE), ridden by Connor Beasley, interfered with Sassoon (GB), placed second, ridden by Andrew Breslin.
In the first instance 1 furlong out, Darbucks (IRE) had drifted right giving causing Sassoon (GB)’s rider to check off heels, and then secondly approaching the line Darbucks (IRE) had carried Sassoon (GB) slightly off its intended line.
The Stewards considered that the interference had improved the placing of Darbucks (IRE) as in the first incident Breslin had been forced to check and lose momentum, and in the second incident had been carried slightly off his intended line.
The Stewards were satisfied that the ground and momentum lost by Breslin in both incidents was greater than the official distance at the line of a nose.
The Stewards therefore ordered the placings to be revised as follows: First Sassoon (GB), Second Darbucks (IRE), Third The Gay Blade (GB), Fourth Zebra Star (IRE).
The interference was found to be accidental in that Beasley had taken reasonable steps to prevent his mount from drifting right in the testing conditions.
Following the race, David Allan reported that Jazzagal (IRE), unplaced, ran too free.
