Prior to this race, a query was raised with Iain Jardine into the reason why he was running Lunacy (GB) here at Ayr 10 days after its previous run at Hamilton where he reported on that occasion that the race had come too soon for the gelding, only 8 days after its previous engagement.
Jardine explained that he felt today’s race was more suitable for the gelding, and after freshening him up at home he was happy for Lunacy (GB) to take its chance.
Permission was given for Frankendael (GB) to wear a red hood in the preliminaries, and for Lunacy (GB) to wear a hood in the parade ring which only.
The Starter reported that Frankendael (GB) was unruly in the stalls and withdrawn at 2.

Edward Bethell was informed that the gelding could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.
Inside the final furlong, Ayr Poet (GB), placed second, shifted left for one hit causing Kentucky Bluegrass (GB), placed fourth, to be checked momentarily.
However, after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Ayr Poet (GB).
Following the race, Andrew Breslin reported that Maraakiz (IRE), unplaced, hung right throughout.
