The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages involving Northern Surprise, ridden by W.J. Lee, placed first and Tom Dooley, ridden by M.C. Hussey, placed second, where it appeared Tom Dooley ran short of room and had to check. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that the winner in causing interference to the the second placed horse, had not improved his position in doing so. The Stewards therefore made no alteration to the Judge's placings. They were, however, of the opinion that W. J. Lee was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly and having taken his previous record in this regard into account, they suspended him for two race days. The Stewards interviewed W.J. Lee, rider of Northern Surprise, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that his mount was idling badly in front, but accepted that he was in breach of guidelines pertaining to use of the whip . Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10. 4. in that he had failed to give his mount sufficient time to respond. Having taken his previous record in this regard into account, they suspended him for two race day's. The Stewards fined Timothy Doyle, trainer, €130 for lodging a passport in respect of Northern Surprise, in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.
